When all witness statements have been taken, forensic evidence has been collected and analyzed, all the leads have been collected and all intel gathered so far, then can begin a process of elimination.
The purpose of the process of elimination is to narrow the search for the suspect down in order to get a conviction in court and solve the case.
The police had two suspects, after the first suspect was discounted, Antoni was the second suspect fitting the profile of potentially killing Billie. It wasn't until forensic evidence of 158 tiny blood spatter particles were discovered on Sion's jumper, that he became the third suspect and Atoni was eliminated from the picture leaving only Sion to be convicted
This stage is also important in coming to the decision to go after one suspect or arrest. This will benefit the case by looking over all of the evidence gathered again, and narrowing it down until one remains with no question of a doubt to whether they did it.. Which then helps with a successfull outcome in the case. However if this stage has errors in its process, it can lead to the wrong suspect being arrested.
In my case, the process of elimination was key as there were three suspects in the firing line. The first suspect was eliminated, the second suspect Atoni was not really investigated in depth when the third suspect came into view (Sion) so 1 and 2 were eliminated until Sion was only left to be found guilty. The process lead to the outcome of the case.
