MEMBERS OF THE INVESTIGATION TEAM

When a crime has been committed, an investigation goes underway to help solve the crime smoothly and efficiently to full effect. The people who help the investigation along are the investigation team, there are many people within the investigation that have different roles and responsibilities to meet certain criteria to cover the case. Some teams are necessary for the crime, some mandatory and some aren't needed. An initial team of investigators will be called out, for example at a scene where someone is laying in a pool of blood, police services will be called out to cordon off the scene, upon arrival of an ambulance, if they have reason to suspect it is not an accident, but an intentional assault then Scenes Of Crime Officers (SOCO's) will be called out to investigate the scene for evidence and a team of Detectives sent out to investigate. Different crimes will need different teams.

There are many different teams ;- The police, Detectives. SOCO's, Forensic scientists, Major crime squad, Crown prosecution service (CPS) and there are additional departments, for example ;- Serious & Organised crime agency, Military, HM Revenue and Customs, Environment agency, Financial service agency, Post Office Investigations, NHS Counter Fraud, Private Insurance & Fraud agencies.

Each team (if involved in a case) will help out gathering evidence and getting involved with the case to help the investigation from the crime scene to the court room to receive a verdict.

Different types of crime need different teams to deal with them, and their roles and responsibilities can vary through different crimes as they all do different jobs in order to solve crimes or resolve dispute. For example, in a mugging, calling 999 will direct you to a trained member of staff who will take details off you on the severity of crime, location, when it occurred and if any other services are needed at the scene, if it is not deemed as serious, a police officer will be sent out to take details off the victim and this type of crime usually stays within the local police services, if it was a violent mugging, maybe a weapon was used, then a police car would be sent out, along with an ambulance and a SOCO team, to collect the evidence and weapon to help find the criminal and the CPS may get involved if the victim wishes to press charges.

If a domestic violence has occurred, it typically follows the same procedure of contacting the police, if the domestic is currently happening a police squad car will be sent out the apprehend the person committing the crime and ensure the safety of the victim, police will then usually introduce a new team of police who deal with the psychological effects this attack may of had and offer care and advice (counselling) to the victim. Domestic violence can range from many different angles, such as sexual assault, mental abuse, threats and murder. Based on the severity of this determines what teams get involved and how responsibility shifts. Again, CPS may become involved if charges are pressed.

On a more serious level of crime, if a terrorist crime was to occur, it would be either be reported to the police and then put through to the major crime squad who are a team more equipped to dealing with this level of crime and are trained how to handle it. Depending on the location depends who else gets involved, if the terrorist attack was happening in a busy place full of people, the local police services will be sent out to help ensure the safety of the public and cordon the area off while the major crime squad work to resolve the issue at hand. Soco's and forensic scientists may be needed depending on the events that have occurred if the criminals got away or hurt someone and if the criminals are apprehended, the CPS will work with the police to have them convicted.
