Summary of the Jenkins case

On the 15th of February 1997, Billie Jo Jenkins (aged 13) was found by foster father SION JENKINS brutally murdered at the Jenkins' back garden patio laying face down in a thick crimson pool of her own blood, with her skull crushed in by multiple forceful blows to the back of the head. And the murder weapon? An 18inch tent peg found laying next to her body covered in her blood.

LOIS JENKINS the wife of Sion, was reportedly out shopping with two of her four biological daughters and was not present during the crime. Sion Jenkins went to pick up his daughter Lottie and her friend Ellen with his younger daughter Annie, he arrived to pick them up at 3pm and dropped Ellen off in between the times of 3:15pm-3:20pm. The driving home with a journey of roughly 4 and a half minuets, Lottie ran upstairs to put her clarinet away and Sion Jenkins claimed he didn't see Billie as she was painting the patio, but heard Annie say goodbye to her. He decided he would go out to buy some white spirit, he took Lottie and Annie with him to the store. On returning home again, he claims to have found Billie Jo laying in her own blood and rang for an Ambulance at 3:38pm and then instead of contacting the wife, rang a neighbor for help.

The police had three suspects in the frame for the murder, one being Sion. Once the police had found 158 microscopic blood splatters on Sion's clothes, the arrested him on suspicion of murder and following court proceedings he was found guilty of murder. After serving a sentence lasting 6 years, his trial was re opened by the court of appeal, and his verdict of guilty was quashed on insufficient evidence. Jenkin's is now a free man.

In my blog, I will be talking through the correct stages of a criminal investigation, the order in which they should occur and the severity of importance they play in securing evidence, and catching the correct criminal. I will be applying these stages to my chosen case study.
