Whenever a case, experiment or interview is being conducted, ethical considerations must be taken into account to not bring more upheaval to the people who are suffering due to the crime.
Media coverage and press intrusion can be upsetting for the people suffering around it, however, using these two aspects in a press conference which may be upsetting, can also gain intel by the family appealing to the general public for any information, or maybe appealing to the criminal himself if there has been an abduction.
The police make sure that the family members are 100% up to going infront of the cameras and making the appeal, and provide emotional support from trained staff afterwards to prevent any psychological trauma.
Billie Jo's case was covered nation wide by the media, press interviewed her school teachers to find out information on her and what she was like. It was a massively re known case. Sion and Lois attended a press conference with the police and press appealing for any information on the killer.
Ethics is relatively important to consider as these criminal situations can be mentally straining and they need to be handled correctly to ensure the mental safety of everyone effected by the crime otherwise it can be brought back on the police not following proper procedures which can lead to the aquittal of a criminal, especially if the police have not considered his human rights and obtained information in a unethical way.
